Remarkable Women in Fair Trade 2023 #1

March 7, 2023/in Archives/by OFTC Chairperson

Creative Handicrafts, Mumbai, India, began in 1984: the inspiration of Sister Isabel Martin who started the work with just 2 women.   Since then it has evolved into a Fair Trade Organisation, independent, non-religious, non-profit, cooperative, aiming to change the world one woman at a time.

We’re delighted to welcome Paul Irwin-Rhodes, Head of Sustainability at Greggs, to Oxford on 22nd February (5pm) to kick off Fair Trade Fortnight early.  Paul will be telling us about Greggs and their journey and reasons for adopting Fairtrade and sustainable products followed by a discussion and a chance to ask questions.
The event will be held at Nuffield College, New Road, Oxford and we’re really looking forward to it – register to attend here

Five stories from behind the scenes. Climate Justice: #LetsDoItFair

May 11, 2022/in Archives/by OFTC Chairperson

We often draw attention to the disproportionate effect of climate change on producers in poorer countries, but we also want to emphasise the positive.  Fair trade enterprises through invention, creativity and necessity are pioneering new ways to produce and trade in the middle of a climate crisis.

Click Behind the scenes climate stories for a PDF of our five stories

Here are five very short  stories from behind the scenes which illustrate Fair Trade’s alternative solutions to global warming: upcycling, natural processes and products, solar power, carbon neutral clothes, triple bottom line.

Each enterprise’s website can also be found within their story
